Isabel Alvarellos

Bio

Isabel Alvarellos was born in Córdoba Capital, Argentina (1988). Her professional development takes place at the intersection of literature and the performing arts. Exploring the importance of care, gestures, and bodily disposition in the construction of identity, her work aims to shed light on both material and immaterial spaces, in order to view them from alternative perspectives. She approaches storytelling as a means of constructing new narratives that bring us closer to the stories we’ve been told—both personal and universal.

She is a multidisciplinary artist. A translator by training from the National University of Córdoba, a graduate of the Acting Specialization Program at the Jolie Libois Theatre Seminar (Teatro Real Córdoba), and holds a Master’s in Arts and Artistic Professions from the Universidad Carlos III and the Círculo de Bellas Artes, Madrid, Spain. She is currently pursuing a Specialization in Performance Studies at the Faculty of Arts, National University of Córdoba (UNC), Argentina.

She wrote Cruces, her first published play, in which she also performed and directed. She worked as a performer in La habitación by Gabriela Bondone, with performances at the Reina Sofía Museum and Teatro Pradillo. She also participated as a performer and creator in the collective Babilonia, in residence at the El 5 de Velarde Scenic Creation Space in Madrid.

Since 2008, she has worked with local theatre groups, participating in various festivals and tours: Gloria Genet (actress), La Tropa Teatro (director), Las Hijas de Israel (performer), and as a guest in the Cage Sessions and the Biennial of Contemporary Art.

In film, she acted in Mnemosyne, a film supported by the National Arts Fund and produced by the Holderlin Foundation. She received a Jury Mention for Best Supporting Actress in the short film 2×1 by Delta Films, part of the “48 Hour Film Project”. Her latest audiovisual work was a leading role in the short film Tóxica, premiered at Sala X, Madrid.

She completed three international residencies: with Odin Teatret in Denmark (directed by Eugenio Barba and Julia Varley), with Teatro de los Andes in Bolivia (directed by Alice Guimaraes and Gonzalo Callejas), and with Taanteatro Company in Brazil (directed by Maura Baiocchi and Wolfgang Pannek).

Her most recent artistic residency, focused on writing her next play, took place at Monade Art Residency in Bergerac, France.

She currently lives and works in Córdoba, Argentina.
